Yesterday we spent a night in the ER at the hospital. Amma got some medical condition, she initially hid it as she is going back in a couple of days and scared to stuck here but then when it went out of her control she disclosed it. Going to the doctor than having tests and get a prescribed medication would at least need 2 to 3 days and we didn’t have that much time. We called Ontario health center where a nurse guided us and based on her recommendation the only option left was emergency where no one wants to go as it takes good 3 to 4 hours if your condition isn’t severe or its not a real emergency but It was the only way to get diagnosed and have test results and medication in one go.
Visitors Health insurance is like a fool game here & a little dark thing people outside Canada doesn’t know about. Even when it says fully covered there are still many “Only Ifs & buts” like it won’t cover pre-existing issues, if you’ll visit the doctor you still have to pay. It wouldn’t help with anything related to dental issues etc but then why do people buy it? Just because there are many cases when people went under a debt of thousands of dollars when one of their parents needed to admit in the hospital for a few days or have to have some emergency surgical process.
When we registered her at ER and they told us that just seeing a doctor and basic test fee will be 720$ plus taxes I felt grateful that we had her covered.
While sitting there my mind had a jumble of thoughts. What if it related to cancer she survived from six years back?
What if the doctor will tell her she couldn’t travel?
What if they will suggest to admit her?
I was also thinking how time is changed, whenever we had to left the house like this we needed to request someone to babysit our kids and when today Amma wanted one of us to stay home & not leaving the kids alone how Khizr responded that it’s ok Nani I am here while younger two were sleeping (and when I came back my poor big baby was sleeping in one position at the corner of the bed and Yahya was stuck to him 💕)
I was thinking about how many things we take for granted and only realize their importance when we are not having them like a healthy life and peaceful sleep.
I was also thinking how transition happens within hours, After work a few hours back I was at salon for pampering myself and I was thinking I will have a very good sleep today and now I am sitting in hospital’s waiting room resisting the sleep, surely we have our plans and Allah has his own and yes he is the best planner.
After 3 am with all these thoughts and while waiting for her test results when sleep start banging badly on my head and Akmal saw us struggling to stay awake he connected chairs with sofa so at least we can have some leg space(lots of duas for him💕) Aur neend to sooli peh bhi aajati Hai so while sitting there I woke up once with my own snoring I believe 🙈.
Around 5 am results came and it turned out that she just had a normal infection that could be treated with Antibiotics which was given to her at the hospital and it was a really big relief Alhamdullilah.
Lessons learnt
*Always buy visitors insurance no matter how healthy your parents are.
*Don’t believe in your parents if they even have a little issue and saying they’re fine, they are probably either scared of the hospital, want to save your money or frightened that they’ll be stuck and won’t able to go back home.
*Contact the health centre first. They are very helpful and they even have a translator for your own language in case you cannot speak English and they guide you accordingly.
*Don’t get panic if there is a situation, crying doesn’t help but working and praying does.
*Cherish every moment of peace and celebrate all Good things in life .We don’t know what is coming next to our way.
