Dholki is kind of innovation of what we called “Rat Jaga” in weddings at our back home Pakistan, where the family and friends gather, sing, dance, giggle and have lots of fun all night. The difference is that these gatherings happen a couple of days before the wedding at the bride or groom’s place called “Shadi ka Ghar”(wedding home). It is still very common there but for all those who migrated to some other country it is very hard to keep this tradition alive because of a many reasons like not having a big close related family nearby, distances, expensive catering ,small housing space ,very expensive Labour, availability of renting decoration stuff and above all a crazy busy life where people have to check their work and engagements schedule weeks ahead before making any commitment. Considering all these I think Dholkis are the best way to involve in a family or friend’s wedding. You can set up a date, can do it on small or big scale whatever suits you, do it individually or combined with some other close relatives or friends ,invite your own guests and some of the guests from the bride or groom’s family or friends, have fun together and get back to your routine.
It gives an opportunity for the wedding families to enjoy for some time without worrying about the arrangement and stuff and of course brings immense joy and sense of love to Bride or Groom from families of their Taya, Chacha, Khala, Phuppo, Mamoo or whoever is arranging for them on a biggest occasion of their lives.
This was a third Dholki I arranged in family and enjoyed every bit of it. I will share food, decoration and activities ideas in series of my next posts, Hope it will be helping for all those who are getting married in near future or having a wedding coming up in family or friends. Feel free to share your love and ideas related to Dholki , Looking forward to your comments
