It all started when the bunches and bunches of fresh, green, aromatic Mint leaves spread all over our backyard. People who know a little or more about gardening would know about the fact that “Mint” is one of those herbs that grow and spread on very quickly, It doesn’t need nurturing or effort and quickly covers the whole space on its own and even after fall and snow it comes back when the spring starts to bloom, that’s why it is recommended to grow it in some small closed space or pot . From past two years we didn’t do much gardening as when we moved to our new place in summer the season was already gone and after that I had a baby “Yahya” who is now a toddler,But the Mint was already there in a corner of our backyard and because of the continuous grass cutting it was spread all over, as a result, we had a whole field of Mint.
Fall was approaching soon and I didn’t want it to be wasted, My mind was busy in finding out the ideas to use it efficiently but even distributing it to friends and relatives wasn’t an easy task. The problem was solved when I attended my first PAC meeting.
This year I joined Parent’s advisory council of my kids school, Every year at the time of Halloween, School arranged a movie night with food sale to keep the children busy and to avoid trick or treating(I am not commenting if it is right or wrong so please avoid debating about it), Same time PAC try to find out ways to raise the fund for different school activities,I proposed the idea of our traditional Pakistani Mint Sauce aka “Imli Podiney ki chutney” and members approved it and we set up a stall of Mint bunches & Sauce with Samosas together and raised around 200$ for our school.
It was fun to introduce our traditional chutney to other people of our community, After the event, My husband also brought few bottles of chutney to his workplace, People absolutely loved it and we even got an order from one of his colleague for Thanksgiving party:).Although it was a lot of work, indeed it was a great learning experience for all of our family and we enjoyed every bit of it. Here is the video of Our MINTcredible sauce story, Enjoy!
