Food is an essential part of any gathering but sadly we put too much burden on ourselves in trying to be a part of a race without thinking if it’s really within our budget or not. Back in the days when people gather at wedding home at night they usually come after dinner and goes back at morning after very economical breakfast(sometimes just chai and rusk) because the purpose is just to have a good time and share happiness without bothering the host. Even when invitaions were sent for “Rat jaga” it is usually written on upper corner of card envelop “10 bajey baad Taaam” (10 O clock after dinner) or “Baad namaz e isha” (After Isha prayer) which technically means people supposed to come after having dinner at their home as of course with a very big family and extended families it is hard to make arrangements.
Dholkies are bit different and innovation of those gatherings as I mentioned in my previous posts so After much thinking about menu we ended up deciding 1 rice and 1 curry dish and few sides. So “Chicken karhai” and “Biryani” were the mains and then I set up Gol Gappa corner to add some joy with Choley Chaat, Dahi Barey plus Tostitose n salsa.
I used ready made Gol Gappa pack, stirred yogurt, boiled potatoes and chick peas ,Shan pani puri masalah (simply awesome) and Shan sweet plum Chatni which was a big hit. I decorated my pani puri water pot with some left over stickers just to add some shine .Biryani and Karhai plus lab e shereen as sweet dish were all from Al Mustafa catering Mississauga which is so far a best choice and highly recommended.
Tadaa Food table is ready and if you ask me about the hottest item , it was of course Gol Gappey 😋
