We talk about everything but rarely about death. Yesterday I got the sad news, one of my little student’s father passed away. He was battling cancer for the past 18 months. I saw her mother while picking and dropping her and two of her elder brothers off, Smiling and talking bravely From outside but must be going through so much inside while working and taking care of her husband and kids. When I got the news it broke my heart and that little chulbuli girl’s face moved in my eyes.
I was barely 2 years old when my Father passed away in a sudden accident. My four brothers were between 15 to 8 .
Sometimes unconsciousness is a blessing. Although we all suffered the loss and faced after-effects of it our whole life, I didn’t feel that incident and didn’t even talk about it. When I heard the news yesterday I felt her pain. Today we attended the funeral. When I met that cutie pie she hugged me tight with joy and asked me with excitement “So you know the whole time that my Father was sick” I smiled with heavy heart, that little girl had absolutely no idea what has happened to her. She held my hand and ran to her Mom, who was busy receiving condolences. She wanted her to leave everyone and meet me. When I was leaving she told me proudly “You know I’ve finished all my homework”, Don’t worry about it dear, My heart ached. Imam Sahab reminded that this world is just a small transit in our Journey, just like we stay in hotels while travelling, trying to have too much from it is just like start decorating and renovating a hotel room when we couldn’t even stay there. We all listen to these things and then move on. Of course, we have to live this life not to get depressed about it but funerals are reminders.
On the way my kids were discussing how to offer Janaza prayers, Fatima was curious why did they announced Quran Khuani tomorrow, Why some people prefer to wear black or white on funeral etc.
Sorry for making you all sad today but life isn’t only about Halla Gulla, parties, fun and vacations. Death is one of its aspects and we should talk about it too. Please pray for the brother who passed away that May Allah grant him Jannat ul firdous and bless his family with the best and Whenever you meet some kids who lost a parent show your mercy and love to them in a way that they won’t feel that they lost someone but should feel like they’ve got someone.💕
